Lot Essay

This painting belongs to a group of at least five portraits, all of single figures and mostly on oval copper plates, dated between 1628 and 1634 in the same calligraphy. Three examples are recorded in the RKD image database (nos. 111964, 51052 and 51053). We are grateful to Fred G. Meijer at the RKD in The Hague for providing this information (private communication, 23 September 2011).
