Lot Essay

This print is one of four prints made in 1948 by Penn as gifts for the sitter, Elisabetta Cristiana Giuffrida-Ruggeri, and her family, whom he befriended while on assignment for Vogue in Italy. One has been sold in this saleroom, October 6th, 2010 (lot 17), one is in private hands and the other is missing. This lot is accompanied by six contact sheets from the sitting, with credit and date stamps (on the verso).
