Timo Nasseri's Glance no. 5 is inspired by Islamic and Persian Muqarmas - a kind of corbel used as a decorative device since the eleventh century. This abstract sculpture, resembling a mirrored space shuttle is composed of reflective stainless steel. As a native Iranian, Nasseri could not have been oblivious to the tradition of cut mirrors adorning Tehran's palaces and homes. In Glance no. 5 Nasseri marries physics, aesthetics, and math to create a sculpture in which the surrounding world is reflected in fragments as it exponentially multiplies. Fragments that impede a comprehensive view as light lands on the mirror in various depths creating a three dimensional mosaic. A sculptural manifestation of Islamic and Persian iconography.
