Lot Essay

Through the present work, Mahmoud Sabzi underlines the incongruities between the East and the West while revealing how disparate visions and concepts can be brought together seamlessly when one inhabits both worlds simultaneously. East Meets West evokes the cultural and the counter cultural forces at play in our hybrid and multi-cultural world and thus becomes a mirror of our contemporary societies.
Mahmoud Sabzi left his homeland Iran shortly after the Islamic Revolution and soon settled in the United States where he continued his aesthetic exploration. Today, his works appear in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art as well as in Tehran's Museum of Contemporary Art.
