Lot Essay

With Cartier Certificate of Authenticity numbered GE2012-23 and dated 20 February 2012 confirming that the present watch was retailed by Cartier Paris in 1955.

Launched in 1921, the Tank Cintrée model was a variant of the original Tank. The curved shape was derived from the firm's tonneau series, made to fit around a wrist, the widened sides with the sharp edges and screwed lugs from the 1919 Tank. The elongated dial was visually enlarged and softened by the rounded chapter ring. The model was available in three different sizes.

For a similar watch and description of the "Tank Cintre" model see Cartier - The Tank Watch by Franco Cologni, p. 192.
