Lot Essay
According to the Archives of Audemars Piguet, the present watch was sold to Cartier on 5 July 1971. Interestingly, a similar model, bearing the preceding case number 61'573, was auctioned in this saleroom on 14 May 2007, lot 85.
The watch belongs to Cartier's "Large Oval" series, which the company introduced in the early 1970s. These watches differ from their counterpart, Cartier London's "Maxi Oval", by featuring
a larger case and numerals.
For another "Large Oval" wristwatch with movement signed Audemars Piguet as well as an example of the "Maxi Oval" version see The Cartier Collection - Timepieces, Editions Flammarion, p. 456.
