Lot Essay

To unmask more possibilities that rest behind the veil of the landscape, Choi Yeong-Geol orchestrates a symphony of nature, human, and religion with his paintbrush. The presence of man is paradoxically hinted by his absence among the rocks and leaves in The Midsummer of Seoraksan (Lot 2399). Embodying a snapshot, the composition effortlessly retains the blooming midsummer. Choi's extraordinary watercolour painting techniques still time and preserve the harmony of nature and spirit.
