Lot 3077 PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ITALIAN COLLECTION Zhu Ying (1894-1954), sobriquet Shuang Zhai alluding to his love for reading and studying, came from an ancient family of writers and scholars from Tianjin and Hangzhou which later settled in Beijing. Zhu travelled to Italy in the 1920s to study new agricultural technology but soon began working at the Chinese Embassy in Rome, first as First Secretary and later as Charg?e d'affaires. Zhu had a close relationship with the Vatican, and was a personal friend of Pope Pius XII (see picture).
