HONG YI (1880-1942)
LOTS 3083-3093 YOU MOJUN'S COLLECTION OF CALLIGRAPHY BY HONG YI This collection of paintings and calligraphy come from the collector You Xiang (You Xuanfu), sobriquet Mojun, native of Jiangxu. You wrote many famous novels independently as well as short stories with other authors. Though a teacher by profession, You was a highly regarded man of letters, with many of his articles published in notable journals. In particular, You's name is mentioned in Lu Xun's book of essays. You met Hong Yi in 1920 when Hong was visiting Zhejiang and residing at the Lotus Monastery (Lianhua si). At that time You was teaching at a nearby school and became close friends with Hong. Hong often gifted You with his calligraphic pieces, most notably during their time together in 1920 as well as in 1923 when they met again at Zhejiang's Lotus Monastery (Lianhua si).
