Lot Essay

"Within the last year, artist Richard Phillips has begun to explore filmmaking and photography as a means of moving beyond found imagery in his paintings. He completed his first film entitled Lindsay Lohan in 2011. Phillips considers the film a "turning point portrait" of the actress that, "at once reveal(s) an emotional awareness of her recent past and, in the most positive terms, expressed the limitless creative potential of her art joined with her unparalleled beauty." Richard Phillips is pleased to contribute Lindsay I - the first in a series of paintings that feature the actress as she is seen in the film - to the Kunsthalle Zürich. This series will be integral Phillips' upcoming solo show at Gagosian Gallery in New York, this fall."
