Provenance
In 1967, Mr. Harry Flitterman, a renowned rug and textile designer from Beverly Hills, California, met Maqbool Fida Husain at a local street fair in New Delhi, where Husain was displaying his works of art. The two struck up a conversation and Flitterman acquired the work on offer here at that time. The two artists made an arrangement to meet at Husain's studio so that the painting could be completed. On his way to the airport, he stopped at Husain's studio to collect the painting, which was literally still wet. In 1987, the painting was passed on to Flitterman's daughters as part of his estate. It was not until many years later that a search began to connect with the artist to see if he would remember this chance meeting so many years prior. It was an extremely sentimental journey which ultimately led to a heartwarming private meeting at a New York hotel between Husain and the present owner of the painting in 2009.
