Greg Wyatt's early introduction to art by his father, artist William Stanley Wyatt, and his subsequent completion of related courses of study throughout his lifetime, has enabled him to produce the monumental cast bronze sculptures for which he has become renowned.
Abiding by the philosophy of "spiritual realism," Wyatt explains his mature style as the merging of realistic images with abstract masses of form, space and energy.
Wyatt has produced several works that are located at various institutions around the world, including the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, Columbia University and Harvard University, among others.
The present work, Fantasy Fountain, formerly displayed in Gramercy Park, consists of a whimsical smiling moon flanked by dancing giraffes, from whose mouths water flows in warm weather. A larger version of this sculpture with related elements is Wyatt's Peace Fountain (1984-85) which is located next to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.
