Lot Essay

In 2000, Trine Sondergaard received the prestigious Renger Patzsch Award. She has since received numerous grants and fellowships, including a three-year working grant from The Danish Arts Foundation. Sondergaard's work has been featured in many group and solo exhibitions. The artist is represented in major public and private collections in many countries including Spain, the United States, Sweden, Israel, and Denmark. Additionally, Sondergaard has completed public commissions for both museums and cultural institutions.

Interior No. 5 is a stunning example of the haunting beauty so emblematic of Sondergaard's work. The light-filled environments in her signature Scandinavian palette, can easily be mistaken for paintings. In this series, she elegantly contrasts stillness with a surreal, unsettling sense of abandonment. Sondergaard's work is prized to have brought a fresh energy to the increasingly popular theme of architecture in contemporary photography.

Trine Sondergaard made the shortlist for The Deutsche Börse Photography Prize in 2006 and 2001, won the Special Jury Prize at ParisPhoto 2006 and the Albert Renger Patzsch Award in 2000. The artist's work can be found in the following institutions and collections:
Maison Europenne de la Photographie Ville de Paris, France;
Museum of Fine Arts Houston, USA;
The Kiosato Museum of Photography, Japan.
