Lot Essay

Both sheets probably from the Kelly drawings of 1947. The second drawing compares with, and is the same size as Bushranger and Cow (Gift of Sunday Reed, NGA) for which see Sidney Nolan's Ned Kelly The Ned Kelly paintings in the Australian National Gallery and a selection of the artist's sketches for the series, Canberra, 1985, p.51.
