Lot Essay

McCarron notes that Lewis made fastidious notations in his record book about some trials proofs, documenting the precise ingredients of inks, plate wiping and degree of press pressure. Some individual trial proofs even bear annotations that note the exact uniqueness of each print. This print is without any such notations but appears extraordinary rich in its impression.
