Jean-Louis Delaunay and Richard Riss have confirmed the authenticity of this work.

In 1949, Sonia Delaunay organized the exhibition Les premiers Maîtres de l'Art Abstrait as an homage to her husband Robert Delaunay at the Galerie Maeght. This work was a study for the posters and invitations created for the exhibition.
