Château Latour--Vintage 1966
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Seven very slightly damaged capsules, some slightly discoloured. Two different versions of Berry Bros & Rudd stickers, separate from main Château label. One slightly nicked label, otherwise good appearance. Levels: ten base of neck or better, one top and one just below top-shoulder. Tissue-wrapped and in original wooden case with a damaged lid
Tasting Note: Seven notes in the 1990s, all highly satisfactory. Christie's 'Tasting of the Century', all top 1966s, not just Bordeaux, at Vinexpo, Bordeaux, conducted by myself and Christopher Burr who had organised it. The Latour was perfection: fine colour; fragrant cedary bouquet, unblemished flavour and condition. In October 2000, drinking well at Saintsbury Club dinner. A flavoury, beautifully textured wine, with time in hand. Most recently: still fairly deep, good colour; cedar, 'oaky' bouquet; excellent flavour, balance and length. Last tasted July 2005 ***** Lovely now. Time in hand. ***** M.B.
