Château d'Yquem--Vintage 1971
Sauternes, 1er grand cru classé
Three slightly corroded capsules. Two slightly bin-soiled labels, otherwise good appearance. Levels: six base of neck and six top-shoulder. In original wooden case with cardboard sleeves
Tasting Note: The best vintage between 1967 and 1975. Good throughout the 1980s, the lovely floral, honeyed botrytis bouquet a prime feature, also its power and richness, length and acidity.. Most recently, coping well with 'Blue cheese crème brülée. (!): richly coloured; barley sugar and caramel nose; sweet and rich, a glorious powerhouse of a wine with perfect counter-balancing acidity. Time in hand. Last tasted at the 'Mr Gourmet' dinner in Memphis, Sept 1999 ***** Time in hand. M.B.
