MAKER'S MARK INDISTINCT [- C], MARKED, PARIS, WITH THE DECHARGE MARK OF JEAN BAPTISTE FOUACHE 1774-1780, THE PARISIAN GOLD MARK FOR VERY SMALL ITEMS 1774-1780, LATER STRUCK WITH THE POST-1838 PARISIAN GOLD GUARANTEE MARK FOR SMALL ITEMS
slightly tapering étui of oval section, both sides of cover and base with engine-turned rectangular panels of horizontal fluting within polished gold frames, chased foliate swag borders, the slightly domed cover similarly decorated and centred with a flowerhead, the matrix engraved with a French coat-of-arms of the duc de Noailles
