MARK OF MICHAEL KRESNER, RIGA, LAST QUARTER 17TH CENTURY
Cylindrical and on three foliage-capped paw feet, the hinged cover engraved with a band of foliage scrolls centring a German marriage medal, by Sebastian Dadler and Johann Hohn, circa 1636, depicting on one side a couple with a child, the male figure holding a shovel, the female a broom, the other side depicting a view of Gdansk, with palm trees in the foreground, the scroll handle engraved with foliage and with double pomegranate thumbpiece, marked underneath with maker's mark only struck twice, further struck with a later Swedish import mark, the medal signed with initials 'SD IH' on the shovel
