Lot Essay

The present lot is one of a set of identical silver plaques that were originally set in variously coloured enamel frames. The sets were commissioned by the Imperial Navy from the Fabergé firm, the assignment given to the Nevalainen workshop, to be presented to ten dignitaries participating in the ceremony of the ship's completion. For an example of a complete set, see Sotheby's, London, 9 June 2010, lot 649.
