Rectangular, the brown leather binding on foliate ball feet, the front cover applied with a rocaille silver frame surmounted with the enamelled coat-of-arms of Kiev, centring a monogram 'FF' within the Russian inscription 'French Republic President City of Kiev 1897', opening to reveal twenty-five vintage photographs depicting Kiev, circa 1896, marked on silver plaque

In August 1897, the French President Felix Faure (1841-1899) paid an official visit to Russia. The present portfolio was given to him by an official representative of the city of Kiev on August 22.
