Lot Essay

The present view was painted from the roof of Messrs W.H. Smith and Sons' new offices at Bridge House, Lambeth, which had been completed in 1933 to hold the Bookbinding Works and Stationery Department. The subsequent print was presented to the Prime Ministers of the Dominions and Colonies as a souvenir of the occasion of their visit to London for the Thanksgiving Service in St Paul's Cathedral for the Silver Jubilee of H.M. King George V on 6 May 1935.
