Lot Essay

In this self-portrait, Norman Rockwell depicts himself painting Soda Jerk, which graced the cover of The Saturday Evening Post on August 22, 1953. Soda Jerk is now in the collection of the Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio, and is said to be inspired by Rockwell's son who worked as a soda jerk one summer during his youth.
