Lot Essay

N.C. Wyeth painted views of the Forsythe family property in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania at least three times in his career. Their hillside was along the Wilmington and Northern Rairoad just below Brinton's Bridge and had a view overlooking the Brandywine. The present work, likely painted out of doors, was followed by a larger version of a nearly identical view, titled Brandywine Valley (circa 1918, private collection).
