A CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE-TOPPED WALKING CANE
THE JADE 19TH CENTURY
The jade handle carved as a figure holding a spray of pomegranates over his shoulder standing beside a small boy and a three-legged toad, mounted onto a green-lacquered wood cane with European green enamel and seed-pearl mounts
The jade: 2 in. (5 cm.) high;
The cane: 38¼ in. (97 cm.) long
Provenance
A Christmas gift from H.R.H. The Princess Mary, Princess Royal, Countess of Harewood (1897-1965) to her Aunt,
H.R.H., The Princess Victoria (1868-1935) in 1926, subsequentlyy re-entering the collections of The Earls of Harewood and by descent at Harewood House, Yorkshire.

Lot Essay

A hand written list in the Harewood House Trust Archive entitled 'Xmas Presents 1926' compiled by H.R.H. The Princess Mary, Princess Royal, Countess of Harewood (1897-1965) mentions 'At. Toria - Walking stick with jade figure handle'.
