Lot 1074
from a private american collector
Boat Trackers was originally owned by Katharine Giltinan Bowen (1887-1973), who lived in Beijing from 1935-1940 and 1946-1949. As indicated by a handwritten note on the back of the painting, Mrs. Bowen, who was an enthusiast of music and art, likely acquired this painting in 1940. Mrs. Bowen lived in Beijing with her husband, Trevor Pryse Bowen (1886-1960), a businessman, accountant and author from Wales. Long employed by the Rockefeller Foundation, Mr. Bowen worked in China as Comptroller of the Peking Union Medical College. He was awarded the Jingxing Medal and Certificate in 1948 by Chiang Kaishek and Wang Shijie. Lin Fengmian's engaging river scene has remained with and has been enjoyed by the Bowen family until the present.
