Property of a student of Pu Ru
This collection belonged to the last apprentice of Pu Ru. As advised by the collector, he was around ten years old when he became an apprentice of Pu Ru. The artist was not accepting students at the time but Mr. Gaohua, a Chinese opera enthusiast and Gao Lingmei's brother lent a helping hand. After school, Pu would send a rickshaw to take his apprentice to his residence for classes. They spent many serene afternoons together, writing, painting, reciting poetries and playing backgammon. They shared a very close relationship, almost like grandfather and grandson, often gifting each other with poems and paintings. When Pu fell ill, the collector played backgammon with him every afternoon until the very last day of his life.
