Lot Essay

The present impression from the Latin Text Edition of 1498 is possibly the earliest known impression, printed in a previously undescribed early state: the block is still printing with the largest central ray touching the right column. In subsequent impressions this line has broken off, leaving a small yet clear gap between the two.
