Lot Essay

Every picture is the shadow of trivial life which is my dairy.
- Yan Ping

Yan Ping was born in 1956. Comparing to the artists of academicism from the older generation, his choice of subject is always coming from his acquaintances. The exquisite understanding and use of color show another nature of the artist.

The art styles of Matisse and Picasso greatly inspired Yan on the presentation of color. His daily acquaintance has been detached by colors and modeled once again. The color, at that time, is never just the physical hue but the light and shadow showing the relation of bright and dark after its re-arrangement. The visual collision and attack is the interpretation to the messy life in reality of the artist. Yan said, "The tangibility and triviality of real life set off the surreal elements of art by contrast. I hope to create the beauty of reality once again."
