Lot Essay

US$400,000-600,000

With Patek Philippe fitted presentation box. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1999 and its subsequent sale on 10 February 2000.

Fresh to the market, the present landmark Reference 5016 has been crowning only a few distinguished collections since its first introduction to the market in 1994 and continues today to fascinate by its generous and curved case proportions, well defined fluted lugs and charismatic black dial rending it a captivating look.

Reference 5016 was produced in very small numbers and in fact, a detailed research reveals that the present lot is the only known reference 5016 with a black dial to be fitted with luminous hands; a special request by the present owner. The present example has recently been sent to Patek Philippe for a full service and we can confirm that all its elements are excellently well-preserved.

The Extract from the Archives confirms that the present watch was originally sold with a silvered dial. What is interesting to note is that the movement number, placed by Patek Philippe on the present black dial, corresponds correctly with this watch. Further interesting to note is that there was a reference 5016, movement number 1905037 (the exact preceeding movement number prior to the present lot), offered on the market some years ago with two dials, one silver and one black. One must find it very possible that as with that example, this watch was also originally sold with two dials.
Reference 5016 was discontinued in 2010 and replaced by reference 5216.
