Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with Breguet numerals in 1949 and its subsequent sale on July 24th of the following year.

To the best of our knowledge this watch has never before been offered in public.

Reference 565 is the first large waterproof watch producted by Patek Philippe launched in 1938 and ending production in 1952. An estimated 15 watches in this reference were produced in stainless steel with the Calibre 12 SC.

In fact, most references 565 containing the sought after caliber 12"'SC were made in the first half of the 1940's, and feature consequently, the "long" signature. The present watch however, dating from 1949, is a rather late specimen from this series, and its dial displays the "short" signature, as one would expect for this period. Lastly, it is a noteworthy fact that Patek Philippe's archives confirm in full both the Breguet numerals and the luminous hour markers and hands.
