Lot Essay

Reference 6036, the third generation of the celebrated "Dato Compax" Oyster triple calendar chronograph model presented by Rolex, was available with various dial layouts, cased mainly in yellow gold and in stainless steel. The 6036 earned the nickname "The Jean-Claude Killy" after the first model was presented to the Olympic skiing champion. These early triple chronographs are known as some of the most complicated wristwatches ever produced by Rolex.

The present watch is an exceptional representative of a reference 6036 in stainless steel, impressing by its beautifully aged two-toned dial. Vintage complicated Rolex treasures are very rare and to find such a watch in excellent condition provides a wonderful opportunity for the esteemed collector to acquire one of the greatest Rolex triple calendar chronograph models.

Various examples of reference 6036 are described and illustrated in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 380 - 401.
