Lot Essay

This sampler worked by Helen Jackson is wool on manufactured backing with a sky painted in watercolor and incorporating brilliantly colored mica window shades and applied paper cut-outs. Bearing the dates 1862 and 1876, these may have marked Helen's birth date and the year she created her embroidery.
