Lot Essay

Ralph Jentsch has confirmed the authenticity of this work.

Hans Reimann (1889-1969) was a German satirist, novelist and playwright who in his book, the cover for which Grosz drew this work, depicted his humorous and honest experience of his adventures as a child attending school in Leipzig. In the final illustration for the cover, only the figure of the teacher was reproduced.
