Lot Essay

Eberhard Havekost's paintings are a reaction to the image-drenched media world we inhabit, reformulating original mass media images into a hyper-controlled state. Dismantling the confidence with which we accept the everyday image, Havekost takes the onlooker on a journey through his own experiences of the world that surrounds him and which he himself is trying to fathom through the act of painting. Increasingly it seems as though what is important in his work is not the image itself, but the dialogue that is generated by it.
