Lot Essay

'The much vaunted wit and humor of Slominski's work is true only to a certain degree. As often as not, the laughter sticks in your throat. Slominski has a distinct tendency towards black humor, sometimes verging on bad taste. In particular, the polystyrene pieces with their applique motifs piled up to create a relieve effect are dominated by an anti-aesthetic of the tacky funfair variety. Huge, stylized butterflies flutter around on a neon-pink background; distinctly out-of-season skis in a lurid shade of green set a banal counterpoint next to a door handle hovering in space and a table fork. Or we see several types of wheels immersed in a background the color of yellow jelly, looking for all the world like rotating lemon slices'.
(B. Sonna, quoted in Andreas Slominski, exh. cat., Sammlung Goetz, Munich 2010, p. 67).
