Lot Essay

'I do use the invented frameworks as a means to visualize situations and subjects. But I have a real interest in these frameworks. They are not just flights of fancy and their primary function is not simply to generate subject matter. If I want to paint something, I paint it. The situations to me are logical, and usually start with a question-what would this be like or what would that look like'.
(D. Schutz, quoted in Imagination Becomes Reality. Part V. Fantasy and Fiction, exh. cat., Sammlung Goetz, Munich 2006, p. 134).
