Lot Essay

'Reyle's work as a whole shows an interesting tendency towards formal dissolution here. There is often a special refinement in the way in which he goes almost to the limits of what can be considered an image at all, and empties the representational space while giving it extreme visual strength at the same time what Reyle is actually doing here is a consistent response to the conventionalization of, for example, the gestural formal language of erstwhile avant-gardes. The questionability of an image itself is always incorporated within an image.'
(J. Asthoff, quoted in 'The Truth of the Fade', Anselm Reyle, Skowej 2011, p. 46).
