Lot Essay

Born in Canada, Margaret Watkins first enrolled in the Clarence White School of Photography in 1914 and was an intermittent member of his staff from 1919-1925. She settled in Scotland in 1928 and abandoned her photographic career. Extant prints by Watkins are therefore extremely rare. This, her most important image, is believed to be one of only five known prints at the time of this writing.
