Lot Essay
Paolozzi made a series of machine heads in the late 1970s which culminated in the large cast-iron sculpture Piscator (1980-81), made for Euston Square, London. These heads were originally conceived from a ready-made which Paolozzi described in 1979 as being 'slightly African, which I quite like... the bottom part is based on a motor-bike, but the top part is invention.'
