SANTE D'ORAZIO (B. 1956)
The blond bombshell is a tradition that, in modern times, extends from Jean Harlow and Carole Lombard, through Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield and Brigitte Bardot, down to Madonna and Sharon Stone and Drew Barrymore and Courtney Love and a host of fair-haired contenders, not least of which reveals herself here. The blonde is the goddess walking among us. Her hair is her halo. She will teach us many things. Today you don't have to be a painter to be an artist and photographers have an even better access to the muse. D'Orazio grew up around pin-ups. He understands the mechanism. He also understands that they are an important part of Art history. An important part of what will always be Art, no matter what fashion or politics dictate. Glenn O'Brien
