Lot Essay

Although the chairs relate to North Italian examples, their form and decoration relates equally to German chairs such as an armchair by Heinrich Hennemann at Schloss Aschaffenberg and another chair by Wilhelm Ferdinand Lipper in the Landesmuseum Münster (H. Kreisel, Die Kunst Die Deutschen Möbels, Vol III, figs. 99 and 164.
