Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1958 and its subsequent sale on 17 July 1959. Further delivered with Patek Philippe servicing tag.

To the best of our knowledge, the present watch has never been offered at auction before. Following a complete servicing at one of Patek Philippe's workshops, the present watch is in excellent working order and condition. An overall original example with the correct crown, featuring the Calatrava cross and even the case number engraved inside the soft-iron protective cap, it is moreover an early anti-magnetic watch, dating from the reference's first year of production.

Reference 3417 was Patek Philippe's first anti-magnetic wristwatch produced in series and was made in stainless steel only. Launched in 1958 it was produced for two years using calibre 12'''400. As of 1960, the model was fitted with calibre 27-AM 400 until the end of production in the late 1960s.

For further details and illustrations of reference 3417 see Patek Philippe Steel Watches by John Goldberger, pp. 342-349.
