With Patek Philippe original brown presentation box. The inside lining of the watch carries the signature of both Patek Philippe and its retailer in Uruguay, the prestigious firm Freccero & Cia at 25 De Mayo 563 in Montevideo. Further delivered with Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with pink dial, applied pink gold indices and tachymetre scale in 1955 and its subsequent sale on 14 March 1957.
The present watch is an extremely charismatic example of Patek Philippe's first water-resistant chronograph wristwatch, the reference 1463. While pink gold examples of the reference are rarer than those in yellow gold or stainless steel, examples featuring a two-tone pink gold dial must be regarded as the ultimate collector's dream. Mostly reserved for the South American market, the watch on offer has this extremely rare feature. This fits perfectly with the fact that the watch carries the distinguished Uruguayan retailer's signature Freccero, adding to the overall charm of the timepiece.
A particular aspect of the dial, which may make this watch seem almost angelic to the discerning collector, is its "halo" effect. The surface around the Patek Philippe signature and around the baton, as well as the Arabic indices, is markedly lighter than on surrounding areas. The visual impact of this entrancing patina pattern is striking and only emphasizes the rarity of the watch.
Kept in excellent original condition with sharp hallmarks on the underside of the upper left lug and the right side of the case, the watch still has its metal dust or humidity cover. As evidenced by the stamped initials FB on the inside of the back, the water-resistant-type case with screw back was made by Taubert, formerly Frères Borgel, a company specialized in waterproof cases.
A watch from as prestigious a maker as Patek Philippe could only be afforded by the wealthy elite of South America. Being a reminder of a bygone era, the sporty look of water-resistant chronograph reference 1463 combined with the retailer's signature on the pink dial make this "pink on pink" watch a special and rare treat for any connoisseur.
To the best of our knowledge, this watch is only the sixth reference 1463 in pink gold with the Freccero signature to have appeared on the auction market to date and is the only one with this particular dial layout. The other watches either had a pulsometer scale, different indexes or Roman numerals. This watch is furthermore one of only around 50 reference 1463 watches in pink gold known to have been put back into the public domain.
Reference 1463 was launched in 1940 and remained in production until 1965.
