Lot Essay

Early Fall was a gift to Dr. Clayton E. Shaw and his wife on the occasion of their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Dr. Shaw was the artist's physician for over fifty years.

The present work, painted in October 1959, was assigned number 1901 by the artist and entered into her record book on page 85.
