Lot Essay

Hans Hinrichs, who purchased the present work from Rockwell Kent in 1944, was a major patron of the artist. He not only purchased several paintings over the years, but also arranged an important commission for Kent to illustrate a booklet celebrating the centennial of the Rahr Brewing Company of Minnesota.

This painting will be included in the catalogue raisonné of Rockwell Kent's paintings by Scott R. Ferris. We wish to thank Mr. Ferris for his assistance with cataloguing this lot.
