"The interesting thing about a polished surface to me is that when it is really perfect enough something happens - it literally ceases to be physical; it levitates; it does something else what happens especially with concave surfaces" (A. The product of Anish Kapoor's career long fascination with manipulations of light, Untitled is a concave shape, an iconic piece that is instantly recognizable. The outside is painted white, which is sharply contrasted by a vibrant blue interior. Kapoor roots himself in the tradition of Minimalist sculpture set by the likes of Constantin Brancusi and Donald Judd. In fact, the undulating qualities of Kapoor's Untitled are also characteristic of Brancusi's The New Born. Kapoor's Untitled is a streamlined piece that belies deep significancethe interior surface pulls in the viewer into an alternate reality.
