Lot Essay

Painted in 1939, View of Bataan from Manila Bay (Lot 3398) is a spectacular example of the halcyon scenes for which Amorsolo was so strongly acclaimed. It captures all the classic Amorsolo elements: a panoramic landscape depicting an idyllic beach setting, hardworking fisherfolk pulling their boats in at the day's end, and above all a glorious golden sunset bathing the land in rich, vibrant hues. These heavenly sunsets are an Amorsolo hallmark and reflect his complete mastery in mixing and controlling his color palettes to fully reflect the tropical climate and beautiful scenery of his native land.
