Lot Essay

Luu Van Sin graduated in 1936 from the Indochine Academy of Fine Arts. Faced with the dilemma between modernisation and tradition, the artist chose to broach the topic of handicraft in his painting Les Parasoliers(Lot 3415), a time-honoured profession. The three men depicted in the painting are showing us different stages of parasol making. The inner parts of the parasols are painted in a traditional pattern, giving the painting a decorative aspect
